In the spring of 2002 Mike (AKA
Fish) brought his fresh new perspective to a well-established engineering
staff. With his own Pro Tools studio and a degree from the Conservatory of
Recording Arts and Sciences, he has added a welcome dimension to the
technical expertise available to Bias’ clientele.A guitar player himself,
Mike is an avid fan of good old fashioned rock and roll, as well as alt
country, bluegrass and the whole jam band scene. Before his first
anniversary at Bias, he had already assisted on sessions with two of his
heroes, Bela Fleck and Peter Rowan. Since then he has worked with all sorts
of musical acts including jazz combo groups, singer-songwriters, modern
folk, hard rock, Christian rock, and of course, good old fashioned rock and
roll. No matter what style of music you are working on, Mike brings his
diverse background to the table, and he is eager to offer his opinion (when
asked, of course).
A recent session found Mike behind the board for the renowned blues
artists Cephas and Wiggins recording a song which was included in the
13-part PRI radio series hosted by Keb’ Mo’ as part of the Year of the
Blues. Another project brought Jazz masters Hod O’Brien, Royce Campbell, Tom
Baldwin and Tony Martucci into the studio to work with Mike. He has also
been fortunate enough to work with Elvis Costello’s band overdubbing drums
and bass one evening while the band was in town for a show.
Producer Bernie Dake, upon completion of his third CD project with Mike
says, "…another GREAT experience with Fish. I am always amazed at how
quickly he gets around in Pro Tools….the bottom line for us is that we look
forward to working at Bias with Mike because we feel like we are part of a
family."
Mike is carrying on the Bias reputation for making artists and producers
feel comfortable in well-equipped, sonically superior rooms. As he builds
his career, Bias is offering very special rates on evening and weekend
sessions with this young master. Check it out. And if you get a minute
during a session with Fish, he’s always up for talking about how the Yankees
are.
